Progressive and Child-Centered
At Hillel Torah, our students are at the center of everything. Our progressive curriculum is designed to engage the whole child, fostering collaboration, exploration, analytical thinking, creativity, and real-world application. With a student-centered approach, our passionate teachers provide innovative, challenging, and diverse learning experiences that support each child’s academic and social-emotional growth in a warm and nurturing environment.
Each student benefits from a full support team, including caring, passionate teachers, learning support and enrichment specialists, and social-emotional guidance from our social worker and Deans of Students, who work together to ensure every child reaches their full potential.
Social-Emotional Learning
Children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and a sense of belonging. Rooted in the Responsive Classroom approach, we create warm, respectful learning environments that nurture each child’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs.
We integrate Lifnai V’Lifnim (a Torah-based social-emotional program) into daily learning to deepen students’ connection to themselves, their peers, Torah, and Hashem. Our teachers are also trained in the RULER approach, which teaches emotional intelligence and self-regulation strategies.
Together, these programs empower our students to feel confident, engaged, and ready to learn–both in and out of the classroom.
Commitment to Israel
Love and pride for Israel are woven into daily life at Hillel Torah. Our renowned Judaic Studies program is rooted in our nationally recognized Ivrit b’Ivrit (Hebrew language immersion) approach. Through our Judaic studies staff, who include Israeli morim shlichim, bnot sherut, and native Hebrew speakers, our students experience an authentic connection to Torat Yisrael, Hebrew language, and Israeli culture. We don’t just learn about Israel–we live, love, and celebrate it every day.
“The familiarity and comfort with Israeli culture our children get every day through the schlichim and banot is amazing to see.” (HT Parent)
Middot and Chesed
In our classrooms, we instill and model kindness, resilience, empathy, and a growth mindset, helping students develop menschlechkeit and essential social skills. This foundation empowers them to navigate relationships, challenges, and responsibilities with confidence and integrity.
Our robust chesed program gives students meaningful opportunities to give back and develop empathy and caring for others. Whether packaging and delivering food to those in need, visiting the elderly, engaging with children with special needs, or raising money for צדקה, students across all grades actively live the values of compassion, community, and responsibility.
Special Programs
At Hillel Torah, learning extends beyond the classroom with engaging experiences that spark creativity and personal expression. We celebrate chagim with vibrant displays, special programs, and school-wide experiences that bring Jewish traditions to life.
Students look forward to milestones, such as Kabbalat Siddur, Kabbalat Chumash, Boker Rashi, Chicago Fair, State Fair, and the highly anticipated Middle School Maccabia–a favorite for both students and staff. Enrichment opportunities such as the annual spelling bee, Lunch ’n Learns, and book clubs allow students to challenge themselves and explore new interests.
