A Note from the Director of Early Childhood

Welcome to Hillel Torah! As your family’s first introduction to the Hillel Torah family, I would like to share the beauty of the thriving, growing, nurturing, and interactive learning spaces in our Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms.

We are a team of devoted professionals who dedicate ourselves to ensuring your child receives the very best foundation in both general and Judaic studies. Our Early Childhood expert educators are devoted and supportive role models encouraging the emerging potential and natural curiosity of each child as he/she becomes an independent learner and thinker.

In our warm and nurturing atmosphere, children begin to understand and appreciate that we are one community working together to create an environment for every child to thrive.

Our days are filled with engaging and meaningful learning experiences as the children are encouraged to learn, explore and discover in a developmentally appropriate way. Our program lays the groundwork for a lifetime of integrated learning. Judaic and general studies are seamlessly blended into an interdisciplinary program encompassing the chagim, tefillot, and middot with the exploration of literacy, math, music, art, and physical activities.

Our Early Childhood Program creates the foundation for the strong education our children receive at Hillel Torah. I invite you to come to visit our Early Childhood classrooms and see us in action. Once you experience the sounds of our children learning, laughing, and singing you will realize the unique experience that is our Hillel Torah Early Childhood Community.

I look forward to welcoming your family.

Preschool

Children in preschool learn through play and open-ended activities, allowing them the opportunity to explore the world around them, ask questions, and discover how things work. Our developmental approach to education focuses on the process rather than the product, allowing children the space to be their authentic selves and the confidence to make their own decisions. Children are encouraged to explore and try new things and are given a lot of choices, all while learning to navigate different social situations with their peers and learning to negotiate, cooperate, and take turns. Children are offered natural loose parts to play with, and open-ended materials both of which foster creativity and critical thinking. Each child at Hillel Torah is unique and we want to nurture each individual child, recognizing that everyone learns and experiences things differently.

Kindergarten

Our developmental approach to education allows our kindergarteners the opportunity to build on their foundational preschool experiences while exploring the world around them, asking questions, and discovering new things. We continue to expand and develop strong math and early literacy skills. Our kindergartners learn through engaging and interactive lessons and activities where they are encouraged to develop independence as they become problem solvers and critical thinkers. Children spend time in learning centers, where they engage with what they are learning in a more hands-on way. Teachers provide differentiated instruction as they work with smaller groups in the classroom. One of the special aspects of kindergarten at Hillel Torah is our integrated approach with both Judaic and general studies woven throughout the day.
