What Your Kindergartener Will Learn

Our developmental approach to education allows our kindergartners the opportunity to build on their foundational Preschool experiences while exploring the world around them, asking questions, and discovering new things. We continue to expand and develop strong math and early literacy skills. Our kindergartners learn through engaging and interactive lessons and activities where they are encouraged to develop independence as they become problem solvers and critical thinkers.

Early Literacy

Early Literacy

Our kindergartners are immersed in a literacy-rich environment. We help build their foundation using the Jolly Phonics Curriculum, the Lucy Calkins Reading Workshop Curriculum, and the Being a Writer Curriculum for beginning readers and writers.

Our teachers introduce early skills and focus on letters and sounds while meeting each child at their own level by helping students develop proficiency in small guided reading groups. As the students progress, our instruction is differentiated to meet each learner as they move forward from early literacy concepts to reading for comprehension and fluency.

Early Math

Our math curriculum uses games and manipulatives to engage our learners as they develop number concepts and problem-solving strategies. Through hands-on learning, students learn how to classify and identify shapes, recognize patterns, learn about length and measurement, understand place value, and build foundational addition and subtraction skills.

Social/Emotional Development

As part of the Responsive Classroom curriculum, each morning our kindergartners participate in a morning meeting, which builds their classroom community and supports their social-emotional growth.

Our Social Emotional curriculum helps children build foundational social competencies and essential life skills through stories, lessons, and play activities. Children are able to better understand themselves and others and develop self-awareness, perspective-taking, and social problem-solving. Additionally, through constructive play, children have the opportunity to develop social and interpersonal skills. Our children develop confidence in their learning capabilities and learn how to:

  • Adjust to new situations
  • Demonstrate self-confidence
  • Show independence in problem-solving
  • Play cooperatively
  • Share and take turns
  • Display self-control
  • Listen respectfully

Jewish Consciousness & Hebrew Language

In addition to our focus on teaching the whole child physically, emotionally, and cognitively, our integrated approach provides a strong foundation for our children as they begin to understand the Hebrew language and foster a love Torah, mitzvot, and Medinat Yisrael.

Our Ivrit curriculum provides a strong foundation for the Alef Bet as our children prepare for learning Ivrit b’Ivrit in the older grades. Our curriculum also focuses on:

  • Tefilot and Brachot
  • Parshat HaShavua
  • Celebrating Shabbat and chagim
  • Chesed and mitzvot
  • Fostering a love for Am Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael
