Hillel Torah Featured in New Book

post by Hillel Torah | Feb 23, 2022

We are excited to share that Hillel Torah is prominently featured in the first chapter of a newly published book, Inside Jewish Day Schools: Leadership, Learning, and Community, by Alex Pomson and Jack Wertheimer.

In this compelling new book, the authors conducted meticulous research on nine Jewish Day Schools across North America ranging in size, denomination, educational approach, culture, and geographic location. Their goal is to better understand the inner workings of Jewish Day Schools: what makes them tick, what they have in common, as well as where they differ, and how they are approaching the range of challenges that schools face today.

It is a fascinating read for professionals, lay leaders, and parents alike who believe in the critical importance of a Jewish Day School education as the key ingredient in Jewish continuity. The insights gleaned from each school profile, the themes woven throughout, and the conclusion which brings it all together, provide an authentic window into ways Jewish Day Schools can position themselves to meet the challenges of today and continue to grow and thrive.

Hillel Torah was honored to be selected as one of the nine schools researched for this project. In the spring of 2019, the authors visited Hillel Torah, observed classes, met with students, teachers, parents, and community leaders, attended a board meeting, and even shadowed me for a day. The result was chapter one of the book, titled, “Progressively Maintaining the Middle – Hillel Torah Day School, Skokie, Illinois.”

The book can be purchased on Amazon or directly from The University of Chicago Press.

Enjoy reading!
